The Mad March Triathlon gave a couple of the Clayesmore Triathlon Squad a chance to race for the first time.
James Hywell – Davies raced in the adult race over the 240m swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run course. James had an early start heading off in the second wave. He had a positive swim clocking 5.35 as his pure swim time; T1 proved a two minute affair with James layering up for the bike course. A solid 29.40 for the 10 mile bike leg saw James catching some of the athletes in the previous wave before he headed out on the run. By the final climb you could see that James was working hard to maintain pace & form with him running 23.47 for the three miles. James finished his first triathlon in 1.01.07 and having raced in the adult field he finished in the top half of the results being 22 out of 47 male finishers.
Xavier Hickman was racing in the Tristars 3 wave. Unfortunately due to the recent weather conditions the race organisers had to cancel the bike leg so his race became a biathlon consisting of a revamped swim & run. Xavier completed the 280m swim & 3.2km run in a total time of 21.35. Due to race restrictions we were unable to see Xavier swim but the multi-loop run gave his family, teacher Miss Cook and the coaches plenty of chances to see him on the run. Xavier could be seen to be working hard on the run and he was pretty spent by the end.
Great effort by both the Clayesmore athletes and hopefully their “war stories” at school will encourage more athletes to come along.
